The Sonic Black Hole

Sonic Black Hole

The Sonic Black Hole

Perhaps in Your mystery You cannot be seen or heard but by being in Your presence.

For it is as if You are the universal black hole, the central point of such massive density that even the light of Your presence will not escape. You who inhabit the whole of Your creation cannot be known unless by the power of Your revelation.

What is the potency of Your epiphany? How does awareness of You escape Your presence to reach us? Or is Your exposure always a sign that You are near – that You are here?

In Your joyous presence where all creation recognizes Your extravagant beauty, all creaturely responses are the praises that must come to You in order to complete our joy.

“For even the stones will cry out.”

“For even the heavens will rejoice – the earth will be glad – the fields will be jubilant and everything in them – for even the trees of the forest will sing for joy.”

Your presence is the sonic black hole where even the cumulative exaltations of all creation can not – will not escape the gravitational pull of Your adoration. There, even sound will become light as all that You have formed approach the speed of eternity.

So, You remain a mystery despite disclosing Your heart – even with exposing Your affections; You give revelation and we just can’t comprehend it until,

“In Your presence is fullness of joy…”

About R.H. (Rusty) Foerger

As I enter the third third of life, I am becoming aware of the role of elders today “to enlarge spiritual vision, being devoted to prayer, living in the face of death, as a living curriculum of the Christian life” (Dr. James M. Houston). I am a life long and life wide learner who seeks to: *decipher the enigma of our worth *rescue from the agony of prayerlessness *integrate spiritual friendship.

    • Thanks; this came out of my summer reading of Simone Weil’s “Waiting for God.” Funny how ideas spark an imagination (I am sure you know what I am talking about). She writes, “… filling every part of infinity of infinity, there is silence, a silence which is not an absence of sound but which is the object of a positive sensation, more positive than sound. Noises, if there are any, only reach me after crossing this silence.” Thus came the idea of God being this “sonic black hole” wherefrom joyful worship can only reach us by crossing the “event horizon” of “this silence.” Well, so much for how my mind thinks. I am quite sure you didn’t ask for this, but I love the creative process, and there it is for what its worth. Here’s to creativity – may it be restorative.
